The educational scenario of the nation has been subjected to swift changes. It may not be an exaggeration to state that every passing day heralds a development, if not an upheaval. In every society, there have been attempts to organize the body of existing knowledge, to perceive the natural and also scientific phenomena not merely with awe and reverence but with inductive and deductive logic, reasoning and experimentation so as to understand various occurrences in an enlightened manner. It is to be noted that technological advancement has always been innovative and explorative. Image Processing is considered to be one of the most rapidly evolving areas of information technology today, with growing applications in all areas of business. It forms the core area of research within the engineering disciplines at most of the top universities and institutes. Machine vision refers the industrial application of vision technology. It describes the understanding and interpretation of technically obtained images for controlling production processes. Cameras and computers give machines or devices the ability to actually "see", to recognize objects or situations and to make the right decisions accordingly. It has evolved into one of the key technologies in industrial automation, which is used in virtually all manufacturing industries. One of the main barriers to full industrial automation is in the practical realization of pattern-recognition and image-processing systems, for image inspection, robot vision, texture analysis, attitude estimation, etc. The Proposed Centre of Excellence is functioning under the Technical Supervision of Prof. (Dr.) K. K. Biswas IIT Delhi
