Laboratories in the Department of Biotechnology:

The Department of Biotechnology is equipped with state-of-the-art research laboratories, each dedicated to specific areas of study and equipped with modern facilities. Following are the details of each lab:

Biochemistry / Enzyme Engineering Lab: The laboratory focuses on studying the biochemical aspects of biological systems and the manipulation of enzymes for various applications. It is equipped with instruments and equipment necessary for enzyme purification, enzyme kinetics, protein characterization, and molecular biology techniques related to biochemistry and enzyme engineering.

Microbiology / Immunology Lab: The laboratory is dedicated to the study of microorganisms and the immune system. It is equipped with facilities for microbial culturing, identification, and characterization, as well as immunological assays and techniques. This lab supports research in areas such as microbial pathogenesis, immunology, vaccine development, and host-microbe interactions.

Genetics and Molecular Biology Lab: The laboratory focuses on genetic analysis, molecular cloning, gene expression, and related techniques. This lab is equipped with instruments for DNA isolation, gel electrophoresis and other molecular biology techniques. It supports research in areas such as genomics, gene expression analysis and genetic engineering.

Plant Biotechnology Lab: The laboratory specializes in research related to plant genetics, tissue culture, genetic transformation, and molecular breeding. This lab is equipped with facilities for plant tissue culture, plant transformation techniques, and molecular analysis of plants. It supports studies on plant biotechnology, crop improvement, and the development of transgenic plants.

Bioprocess Engineering / Fermentation Biotechnology Lab: The laboratory is dedicated to studying and optimizing bioprocesses to produce biochemicals, biopharmaceuticals, and biofuels. It is equipped with bioreactors, fermentation units, and instruments for process monitoring and control. This lab supports research in areas such as fermentation optimization, downstream processing, bioreactor design, and scale-up of biotechnological processes.

Environmental Biotechnology / Downstream Processing Lab: The laboratory focuses on research related to environmental applications of biotechnology and the purification of biomolecules. This lab is equipped with facilities for environmental monitoring, bioremediation studies, wastewater treatment, and downstream processing techniques for the purification of bioproducts.

Project Lab: The laboratory serves as a space for students and researchers to work on specific projects and experiments related to their coursework or research interests. It is equipped with necessary instruments, equipment, and resources based on the requirements of individual projects.

Bioinformatics Lab: The laboratory is dedicated to computational analysis and modelling of biological data. It is equipped with high-performance computing systems, software tools, and databases for analysing genomic, proteomic, and other biological datasets. This lab supports research in areas such as genomics, sequence analysis, structural biology, and systems biology.

Fluid Mechanics for Biotechnology Lab: The laboratory focuses on studying the principles of fluid mechanics as applied to biotechnological processes. It is equipped with experimental setups and instruments to study fluid flow, mixing, and mass transfer phenomena. This lab supports research and practical training related to the engineering aspects of bioprocesses.

Heat and Mass Transfer Lab: The laboratory is dedicated to studying the principles of heat transfer and mass transfer in biotechnological processes. It is equipped with experimental setups and instruments to study heat and mass transfer phenomena in bioreactors, separation processes, and other biotechnological systems. This lab supports research and practical training related to the thermal aspects of bioprocesses.
These research laboratories provide students, researchers, and faculty members with the necessary infrastructure and resources to conduct experiments, carry out research projects, and advance knowledge in various areas of biotechnology.
